List Description
DOCLINE-L is an email discussion list available from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). DOCLINE-L is restricted to registered DOCLINE® users. It provides a forum for DOCLINE users to communicate with each other about any issue related to DOCLINE or resource sharing among the greater biomedical library community. The list is unmoderated; however, postings are limited to list subscribers. The DOCLINE-L Archives allow users to search list postings, modify subscription options, and post messages.
NOTE: DOCLINE users wishing to receive announcements about DOCLINE from NLM should subscribe to DOCLINE-L
We recommend that DOCLINE libraries also subscribe to their regional discussion lists for important regional announcements in addition to subscribing to NLM's DOCLINE-L Archives (to receive messages affecting all DOCLINE users).

List Guidelines (Return to Top of Page)

These guidelines do not replace common sense, professionalism, and respect for your fellow subscribers.

Read the DOCLINE support articles prior to posting a question. |
Post ILL requests unless you have exhausted all DOCLINE routing options to request ILL material. |
Search the list archives prior to posting a question. |
Post temporary closure notices. Use the DOCLINE Out of Office feature to prevent requests from routing to your institution. |
Identify yourself and your institution. Include your full name, title, email address, institution name, and institution's LIBID in your posting. |
Ask if system is down. Please use Contact DOCLINE or call 888-FINDNLM (301-594-5983). |
Be concise. |
Report specific problems. Please use the Contact DOCLINE form to document a possible problem with DOCLINE. |
Use descriptive subject lines. When replying, edit the original subject line as necessary. |
Post conference announcements, post advertisements, including notices of document delivery services, or job postings. |
Keep messages within the scope of this list. |
Post messages containing defamatory, abusive, profane, offensive language, or illegal material. |
When replying, include only those parts of the message to which you are replying. |
Post materials protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. |
Send personal replies to the individual, not to the entire list. Personal replies include messages like "Thank You," "I agree," "Good point." |
Use 'auto-reply' for list postings as these may be distributed to all subscribers. Use the 'nomail' feature or set your 'auto-reply' so that list postings do not receive the auto-generated message. |
Remember that your fellow subscribers are human. Be tolerant of mistakes. |
Post test messages to the list. |
Summarize responses to the list. When posing a question to the list, ask for personal responses and then summarize answers to the list. |
Include signature attachments, as many email systems cannot properly view them or will strip them. |
Send messages in plain text only. Some email systems cannot properly display HTML or Rich Text messages. |
Include images or other file attachments. |
