Like many pamphlets in the Claude Bernard collection, Jacob Schmulewitsch’s work on the effects of temperature on muscle function includes charts, illustrations, and fold out pages. Not much is known about Jacob Schmulewitsch, including information any other publications.
The foldout on page 18 of this pamphlet poses a problem for typical scanning machines, which can capture images no larger than a piece of printer paper. To accommodate oversize materials, the Library’s equipment includes a large format scanner with a scan area of 25 x 35 inches. For even larger items, the digitizing team may scan the object in parts, then “stitch together” the images to create a final scan in the correct dimensions.
