The National Library of Medicine recently reaffirmed a partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities. Since its inception in 2012, the partnership has yielded a substantial and growing record of advancing research, education, and public service through NEH-funded initiatives, including:
- Data, Health, and the Digital Humanities: Shared Horizons II (DH2), in October 2022, a series of all-virtual programs and a scholarly book. DH2 will mark the 10th anniversary of Shared Horizons: Data, Biomedicine, and the Digital Humanities, a unique interdisciplinary symposium held in 2013 that marked the beginning of the NEH/NLM collaboration.
- Viral Networks Reconnected an open-access book comprising a collection of research papers resulting from the January 2018 Viral Networks workshop, is now available from VT Publishing and NLM Digital Collections. Watch a special program that reunites three scholars who participated in the workshop to share the progress of their research and their thoughts about the future of the digital humanities and the history of medicine.
- Flu! The 1918 Spanish Influenza in American and World History an NEH summer seminar for K-12 Teachers Hosted at NLM the week of July 16, 2018 in cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration, and The Catholic University of America and organized by Virginia Tech.
- Viral Networks: An Advanced Workshop in Digital Humanities and Medical History, in January 2018, which brought together scholars from various fields of medical history whose innovative research shows promise through the use of methods, tools, and data from the digital humanities.
- Images and Texts in Medical History: An Introduction to Methods, Tools, and Data from the Digital Humanities, in April 2016, which explored emerging approaches to the analysis of texts and images in the field of medical history.
- Shared Horizons: Data, Biomedicine, and the Digital Humanities, in April 2013, which explored the intersection of digital humanities and biomedicine.
- The Spanish Influenza of 1918, the 2015 Summer Seminar hosted by the NLM from the NLM in Focus blog and this website about the seminar.
- An Epidemiology of Information: New Methods for Interpreting Disease and Data, in October 2013, which explored new methods for large-scale data analysis of epidemic disease.
