NLM Welcomes 2024-2025 Associate Fellows
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is pleased to announce its 2024-2025 cohort of Associate Fellows:
Katie Kidwell, MA, MSLIS
University of Iowa, Simmons University
Professional Interests: Controlled vocabularies, user engagement and outreach, and how data are generated, analyzed, and translated, as well as how equity and meaning-making factor into its creation and dissemination. After the fellowship, Kidwell hopes to return to a medical school library to focus on research and instruction.
Sophie Nachman, MSIS, MPH
University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill
Professional Interests: Health literacy, open science, and health information dissemination. After the fellowship, Nachman aspires to work in research settings to develop inclusive consumer health information resources, support organizational health literacy, and reduce barriers to healthcare.
Erin Simon, MSLS
University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill
Professional Interests: Open science, data science, bibliometrics projects in equity in the citation process, health literacy, and how developing AI technologies could improve health literacy initiatives. After the fellowship, Simon hopes to continue working in a government or academic setting where she can continue to support open science initiatives, systematic reviews, health literacy and bibliometric research.
Eli Wachter, MLIS
University of Washington
Professional Interests: Research data management, community engagement, health information dissemination, archives, and supporting transgender medicine. After the fellowship, Wachter aspires to work within a public or academic library setting, focusing on areas such as medical history, community health research, and/or health literacy.
The National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship Program is a one-year postgraduate training fellowship at the NLM. The program is designed to provide a broad foundation in health sciences information services, and to prepare librarians for future roles in health sciences libraries and in health services research.
During the program, Associates:
- Learn about the collections, databases, terminologies, research and development, training, outreach, and exhibits that comprise the work and achievements of the National Library of Medicine
- Understand strategic planning and development at a national level
- Select and participate in projects that affect libraries and users throughout the country
- Join a dynamic and successful cohort of alumni
- Attend professional development conferences and seminars
