The National Library of Medicine®, the world's largest medical library and a component of the National Institutes of Health, recently conducted a video contest in which the public was invited to create original short videos, promoting awareness of NLM® products and services. Entries were submitted on YouTube and were then screened by a panel of judges from NLM and NIH.
The winners were announced at the May 2-3, 2011 NLM Board of Regents meeting:
Grand prize winner: "James and the Peanut Allergy." Producer: University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, in collaboration with the Biomedical Informatics Department.
First runner-up: "The Fastest Librarian in the West." Producer: Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center, University of New Mexico.
Second runner-up: " MedlinePlus: Making a Difference Every Day." Producer: Schusterman Library, University of Oklahoma - Tulsa.
The videos are being captioned and will soon be embedded in the NLM 175th Anniversary site. The public is invited to use these videos to promote the NLM "information innovation" for better health.
The contest supports the NLM mission of publicizing the availability of its information products and services, including but not limited to MEDLINE®/PubMed®, MedlinePlus®, GenBank®, PubMed Central®, ClinicalTrials.gov, Bookshelf, AIDSinfo®, and Profiles in Science®. Details about the contest may be found on Challenge.gov.
